TAOS-ZHL Wind Energy successfully developed new type wind machine of downwind passive yawing which discards the tail van and any mechanical protection set to make structure compacter and more reliable, and the ability to "catch" wind higher owing the lower yawing inertia. We are confident that the downwind passive yawing design would be a higher level for small wind turbine.

Most modern small wind turbine is designed to yaw the turbine to windward by tail-van. The wind rotor is in up-wind position supported by tail-van because up-wind position is an unstable position. The tail-van bears severe load. And the higher the wind speed, the more severe load on the tail-van; the more severe the flutter of tail-van. The tail-van is the cause of failure and noise. |

The turbine has only two pairs of parts with relative rotation to make structure compacter, more reliable, more life expectancy, and the ability to "catch" wind higher owing the lower yawing inertia.
Dump-load is not a perfect and reliable design |
Most modern small wind turbine design provides overspeed/overvoltage protection by dumpload to "drag" turbine in slow rotation speed by converting electrical energy turbine generated into heat of dumpload. But the dumpload design is not a perfect and reliable design virtually.
| The electrical energy generated by wind turbine would be over much than the power of dumpload when the wind speed is higher much than, say, the rated wind speed ofthe turbine. In this condition, dumpload is not able to " drag" turbine rotation speed to result overpower and overvoltage then to destruct dumpload self, upstream wind turbine, and downstream inverter. Dumpload design is safe only in some higher wind speed but is unreliable in strong wind.

Control function relied on backup power is unsafe |
Most modern small wind turbine regulator depends some backup power to function, such as battery power in off-grid system and grid power in grid-tied system.There would not be any protection function if battery power, or grid power, lost accidentally. Control function relied on backup power is unsafe. |
Applying latest microelectronics and developing creative control mechanism model to synthesize the aerodynamic effect of wind rotor and magnetoelectric effect of PM alternator onto microprocessor programme, TAOS regulator follows and regulates the state of whole system to protect system from over-load, over-speed, and over-voltage by braking wind turbine at set point and in set duration. The most important thing is: Protection is reliably in action up to specified survival wind speed and functions do not rely on back power to make system safe and reliable very much in any abnormality.
